Export Data from the Voter Database for a GIS System
This topic explains how to extract voter demographic and street address data into a file that can then be read by a GIS system supported by the Generic GIS Interface.
The export operation described in this topic should be performed on the live production database. Nothing in this operation alters the database contents; it simply copies data to a file.
To export a text file for geocoding by your GIS system:
- In Voter Focus, go to VOTER FOCUS ADMIN > System Options > Street Maintenance and verify that the setting for Street Maintenance Method is Generic GIS Interface.
- Go to STREETS & PRECINCTS > Street Utilities > Export/Import Data via Generic GIS Interface.
- On the Generic GIS Interface dialog, click Create File of Voters for GeoCoding.
- On the Windows Save As dialog, specify a name and network location for the export file. Leave the file extension blank or enter TXT.
- Click Save. When the file is created, you will see the message Completed at the bottom of the Generic GIS Interface dialog along with the number of voter records included in the file.
-
Click Close.

Consult with your GIS system representative for instructions on importing this information into the GIS system.
